GABE KATZ
Gabe Katz (he/him) is a Brooklyn-based dancer, choreographer, filmmaker, and educator whose work bridges the worlds of live performance and dance on film. He holds a BFA in Dance with a concentration in Choreography from Marymount Manhattan College, and is an alum of prestigious training programs including The School at Jacob’s Pillow, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s HSPro, and Springboard Danse Montréal.
As a performer, Gabe has worked with renowned choreographers such as Ohad Naharin, Hofesh Shechter, Maxine Doyle, Peter Chu, Sonya Tayeh, Jenn Freeman, Larry Keigwin, Akira Uchida, and Rena Butler. He has danced with NYC-based companies including MADBOOTS DANCE, Hivewild, and NVA & Guests, and was a performer and swing in the final years of Sleep No More by Punchdrunk NYC. His commercial credits include work for brands and artists such as Gap, Puma, Paul McCartney, Eartheater, Shygirl, and Ryan Heffington. He was featured in Akira Uchida’s acclaimed film Still, which premiered on NOWNESS in 2022.
Gabe’s choreographic voice has been shaped by a deep commitment to both narrative and abstraction, with work presented at institutions like The Joffrey Ballet School NYC, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and Marymount Manhattan College. In 2018, he was named Joffrey Ballet School’s first “Emerging Choreographer,” restaging his original work hmmon the Jazz & Contemporary Trainees. He has since created original works and films including Armour of Shells (2020), A Sense of Humor (2019), and Patient & Persistent (2020), the latter of which was presented by the Milwaukee Jewish Community Center during their Tapestry Virtual Concert.
In 2021, he returned to Marymount to debut tender, with music by Lucy Yao and support from Taylor Woodie. This project evolved into tender .5 at Arts On Site and tender, again, which premiered in 2024 through BODYSONNET’s INSTAL program at CPR – Center for Performance Research.
From 2023–2025, Gabe collaborated with Miami Dance Collective under the direction of Marie-Louise Gaschler, creating a 20-minute work titled MATTER. This piece was later adapted into a film in partnership with Amplified Productions and premiered in February 2025.
Gabe continues to teach, choreograph, and create across the country, always seeking honest, nuanced storytelling through movement. He is deeply grateful to the communities and collaborators who have held his work with care, curiosity, and generosity.
